Meet Barbara and Becky
Each J. Margaret Weaver piece is named in honor of someone who inspired, supported, or touched someone in our community. I love reading through the nominations and hearing stories of so many people who have given their time, wisdom, and support to others. Today, I am sharing the story of Barbara and her nominee, Becky. Here is what Becky had to say:
Barbara came into my personal and professional life in 2012 when we began working together at The University of Kansas Health System. At the time, I managed one of the hospital's inpatient cardiac units, and Barb was the Vice President of our Cardiac Service Line. My admiration for Barb began instantly as conversation unfolded and I got a glimpse of the brilliant business woman, clinician and humanitarian she is. Barb has an unrivaled ability to quickly engage people, establish connections and exude the type of contagious energy that draws others in. I have seen her connect with people in the organization at every level, and never at any point does she allow her title or her influence within the organization intimidate people; rather, she uses her influence to mentor and help others. She has shepherded me through an interim assignment that stretched me professionally, she has mentored me through a role transition that led me to unfamiliar territory, and she has been a loving and calming force through personal tragedies that have left me looking for a source of strength. Barb allows herself to truly be present with others and she understands how important genuine connection is, all the while balancing the personal piece of her work with the business side. She is a remarkable human being, and my life is infinitely richer for having her in it.
